-SPIKES LOOK FOR ROAD SWEEP OVER THE DOUBLEDAYS: The State College Spikes look for their fifth straight win tonight with chance for a three-game sweep over the Auburn Doubledays to complete their series at Falcon Park. The Spikes are 32-40 all-time against the Doubledays, including a 17-20 mark in games played in Auburn. In 2006, the last time the Spikes came into Central New York as a Cardinals affiliate, State College only took one of five games from Auburn at Falcon Park. The Doubledays were a Toronto Blue Jays affiliate at the time. State College has never before recorded a sweep of Auburn in a three-game set.
-LAST NIGHT: The Spikes tied a franchise record with 20 hits and used an eight-run second inning to launch their offensive barrage in a 12-1 win over the Auburn Doubledays on Friday night at Falcon Park. State College had reached the 20-hit mark on two previous occasions (8/8/08 vs. Williamsport, 7/12/10 vs. Vermont), both at home. Seven Spikes produced multiple hits in the game, including Trevor Martin, who became the first Spike with a home run this year with his ninth-inning blast. Jimmy Bosco, Ronald Castillo and Carson Kelly all had three hits. On the defensive side, Nick Petree started went four scoreless innings in his pro debut on the mound, while Mitch Harris notched his first pro win after allowing one unearned run in 1 1/3 innings of relief.
-PIERCE GETS BALL IN PRO DEBUT FOR SPIKES TONIGHT: Right-hander Andrew Pierce makes the first pitching appearance of his professional career tonight as he starts for State College. The Cardinals made Pierce their eighth-round draft choice just two weeks ago out of Southern Miss. Pierce was a Golden Spikes Award Watch List member for the Golden Eagles this year, and earned First Team All-Conference USA honors for the second year in a row. The Stringer, MS native was 9-2 with a 2.57 ERA this past spring with Southern Miss, striking out 98 and walking 28 in 112 innings over 16 appearances, 15 of them starts.
-TURNBULL TO TOE SLAB FOR DOUBLEDAYS: Left-hander Kylin Turnbull becomes the first southpaw to start a game against the Spikes this year as he gets the start for Auburn this evening. Turnbull has already made one start this year, tossing five scoreless innings to beat Batavia at Falcon Park on Monday night. The Hilsboro, OR native gave up only two hits and recorded three strikoutes. Turnbull started this year with the Advanced-A Potomac Nationals, going 0-3 with a 14.81 ERA in three starts before going 2-2 with a 5.32 ERA for Single-A Hagerstown.
-CASTILLO COMING UP BIG: Spikes outfielder Ronald Castillo was one of the key cogs in the Spikes offensive machine last night, going 3-for-3 with a walk before being pinch-hit for in the seventh. The Dominican Republic native is now fourth in the NYPL with a .455 average, and his 10 hits are tied for the league lead.
-SPIKE MARKS: Auburn has been forced to use ten pitchers over two games, with only one going more than 2 2/3 innings...The Spikes now have 34 runs on 59 hits over their last four games...The 15 runners the Spikes left on base were the most for a nine-inning game in club history...Only Brian Vigo, who reached base twice last night, and Alex De Leon, who entered the game in the 7th, did not have hits last night
