CT Tigers Pick up First Win

Burlington, VT "" The CT Tigers put together an eight run seventh inning to defeat the Vermont Lake Monsters 8-4. In the seventh inning with two on and no outs 2B Dominic Ficociello (2-4) ripped a double to the right center gap that scored 1B Patrick Leyland (2-4) and SS Javier Azcona to make the game 3-0. After a two-run single from 3B Brett Harrison (1-5) the Tigers jumped out in front 5-0. DH Duncan McAlpine (1-4) hit a three-run home-run over the left field wall to put the Tigers out in front 8-0.

Starting pitcher for the Tigers LHP Alex Phillips pitched five scoreless innings allowing no runs on three hits and striking out three batters. Winning pitcher RHP Zac Reininger pitched two innings allowing no runs on one hit. The Lake Monsters tried to rally in the bottom of the ninth inning as they plated four runs after doubles from 1B Michael Soto (2-4) and RF Tyler Manicov (2-3). RHP Andrew Harrison came in relief with one out in the ninth and struck out 3B Luis Baez (0-4) and managed to get DH Xavier Maclin (1-4) to pop out to end the game.

The Tigers start a five-game homestand starting tomorrow evening at 4:05 p.m. against the Tri-City ValleyCats at Dodd Stadium. In game one of the three game series, Connecticut LHP Preston Jamison (0-1, 6.00) is slated to face off against Tri-City RHP Adrian Houser (0-0, 13.50).
