-SPIKES FINISH RUN VS. DOUBLEDAYS: The State College Spikes and Auburn Doubledays head to Falcon Park tonight to finish a two-game series and a series of four consecutive meetings against each other. The Spikes are 27-29 all-time against the Doubledays, with a 12-13 mark all-time on the road against the Nationals affiliate.
-LAST GAME: The State College Spikes erupted for five runs in the third inning of Monday's game against the Auburn Doubledays to take the lead, but a walk-off grand slam by Auburn's Justin Miller in the tenth inning gave the Doubledays a 9-5 win over the Spikes at Falcon Park on the Fourth of July. New Spike Billy Nowlin, who joined the team on Saturday after spending the last three years in the Detroit Tigers organization, delivered a two-run double during the State College surge in the third. All five Spikes runs came with two outs. Matt Benedict went 5.2 innings, the longest outing of the year for a Spikes pitcher, but did not earn a decision.
-HAFNER LOOKING FOR FIRST WIN: Right-hander Ryan Hafner searches for his first professional victory tonight against the Doubledays. Hafner went five innings and left with the lead in his last start against Mahoning Valley on Wednesday, but did not end up with a decision. The Lee's Summit, MO native allowed his first two earned runs of 2011 against the Scrappers, but his 1.38 ERA is still among the leading marks in the NYPL.
-AUBURN TAPS RODRIGUEZ FOR START: Right-hander Manny Rodriguez gets the ball for the Doubledays tonight. Rodriguez pitched two scoreless innings of relief against the Spikes on June 21 at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. The former Barry University star was touched for six runs (five earned) while getting just one out in his last start at Williamsport on Wednesday. Rodriguez was a 10th-round pick of the Nationals in this year's draft.
