-SPIKES LOOK TO GET BACK ON TRACK VS. BROOKLYN: The State College Spikes take on the Brooklyn Cyclones in the second game of a three-game series at Medlar FIeld at Lubrano Park tonight. State College started the six-game homestand by sweeping three straight from the Staten Island Yankees. Brooklyn holds the all-time series lead, 14-5, and an 8-2 edge in games at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

-LAST GAME: Clay Holmes produced five scoreless innings for the State College Spikes, and the Spikes came back from a six-run deficit to bring the winning run to the plate, but the Brooklyn Cyclones' offensive surge in between was too much for the Spikes in a 6-3 defeat on Saturday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. State College nearly completed the largest ninth-inning comeback in franchise history as the Spikes battled back from down 6-0 to plate three runs and load the bases with two outs for Ryan Hornback, but Hornback struck out to end the game.

-SPIKES TAP CREASY FOR MOUND ASSIGNMENT: Right-hander Jason Creasy gets the start for State College on the mound this evening. Creasy allowed just one run on five hits while striking out one over five innings against Vermont last time out, but did not receive a decision. The Clayton, NC native was the Pirates' eighth-round draft choice in 2011, and struck out a season-high six batters in his last home start against Batavia on July 3.

-CESSA HEADS TO HILL FOR CYCLONES : Right-hander Luis Cessa is slated to start for Brooklyn tonight. Cessa started his pro career as an infielder with the Mets' Dominican Summer League affiliate from 2009-10, but converted to pitcher last year. After making five starts with the Mets' #2 DSL club, Cessa came to the States and went 4-2 with a 3.66 ERA in 32 innings over 10 appearances. The righty took the loss at Jamestown last time out, allowing two runs in 5 2/3 innings.

-SPIKES MOUND STAFFERS START STRONG: Jason Creasy, Clay Holmes, Luis Heredia, Jake Burnette and Joely Rodriguez each have at least one start of five innings or more with one earned run or less this year. Holmes, Heredia and Rodriguez hold the top three earned run averages in the Pittsburgh Pirates' system, and the team's 2.93 ERA is tops in the organization.

-SPIKE MARKS: Heredia's ERA of 1.13 now puts him in a tie for second-best in the NYPL, while Holmes is fourth at 1.14...Holmes's .146 opponents' batting average is second in the league behind only Mateo...Jordan Cooper has allowed just 6.1 baserunners per nine innings to lead all NYPL relievers....State College last came back from six runs down to win on 8/1/10 at Auburn (6-0, 8th).
