
Lake Monsters Drop 8-3 Decision At Williamsport

WILLIAMSPORT, PA --- Larry Greene went 3-for-4 with a two-run double and a two-run homer as the Williamsport Crosscutters snapped a five-game losing streak with an 8-3 New York-Penn League victory over the Vermont Lake Monsters on Sunday evening at Bowman Field.
After a delay of an hour and 40 minutes at the start of the game due to rain, Greene gave the Crosscutters a 2-0 lead in the first inning with his first home run of the season off Vermont starter Deyvi Jimenez. Williamsport added a two more runs in the second on three straight singles and a two-run throwing error by Jimenez, who allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits with no wallks and five strikeouts in three innings.
Vermont got back to within a run at 4-3 with two runs in the fifth and another in the sixth. Bruce Maxwell led off the fifth with a walk and scored on a Miguel Marte RBI double. Then after a passed ball, Marte scored when Wilfredo Solano reached safely on an error by third baseman Mitch Walding. The Lake Monsters added another run in the sixth as Jacob Tanis and John Wooten opened the inning with back-to-back infield singles, then a Maxwell sacrifice bunt and Marte sacrifice fly scored Tanis.
But Willliamsport got the run back in the bottom of the sixth off reliever Kris Hall, then added three insurance runs off Tucker Healey in the eighth inning on Greene's two-run double and Chris Serritella RBI single for the 8-3 lead.
Delvin Perez (2-2) allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits with four walks and three strikeouts over five innings for the win, while Logan Moore was 3-for-4 and Brian Pointer was 2-for-3 with two runs as Williamsport (10-17) outhit the Lake Monsters 13-5 in the contest.
Vermont (15-12) has now lost four of the first five games on its eight-game roadtrip and wrap up a three-game series at Williamsport on Monday at 7:05 pm. The Lake MonstersÃÂ then head to Connecticut for games on Tuesday and Wednesday before returning home to historic Centennial Field for a two-game series with Tri-City on Thursday and Friday.
