-SPIKES LOOK TO EVEN SERIES WITH 'CUTTERS: The State College Spikes' six-game homestand rolls on tonight as they face the Williamsport Crosscutters to Medlar Field at Lubrano Park in the middle game of a three-game series. Williamsport has won five of the seven games between the two teams this season, while State College has split four meetings at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Williamsport leads the all-time series, 37-30.
-LAST GAME: Alex Dickerson collected three hits and Roderrick Jones drove in a run while reaching base three times, but the State College Spikes were victimized by the Williamsport Crosscutters' steady offense in a 6-1 defeat at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park on Friday night.
Dickerson delivered his third three-hit performance of the year, adding a run scored over four at-bats for State College. The Pirates's 2011 third-round draft choice teamed with Jones to give the Spikes a 1-0 lead in the first inning when he singled and scored on Jones's double to right-center field. Jones also walked twice on the night.
-KINGHAM ON THE HILL FOR SPIKES: Right-hander Nick Kingham, who is currently fifth in the New York-Penn League in ERA at 2.36, gets the ball to start for State College tonight. Kingham earned wins in both the first and last games of the Spikes' most recent six-game road trip, going a total of ten innings. Last time out, Kingham shut out Auburn over the five innings he was on the mound, striking out six and yielding only two hits.
-NESSETH GETS START FOR 'CUTTERS: Right-hander Mike Nesseth takes the mound tonight for Williamsport. Nesseth sits one spot behind Kingham on the NYPL's ERA list with his 2.47 mark., and has gone at least five innings in all but two of his 12 starts this year. The right-hander faced State College in the second game of the season, allowing one run on two hits and four walks over six innings. Nesseth was a 17th-round draft pick of the Phillies in 2010.
