Jamestown Jammers News Release
NILES, Ohio - For ï¬Âve innings, Jose Urena shut down Mahoning Valley; however, the Scrappers scored four runs in the sixth inning to best the Jamestown Jammers, 4-2, Saturday night at Eastwood Field.
In the decisive frame, Mahoning Valley used four hits and two Jamestown errors to score all their runs for the game and stay in the playoff hunt. The loss drops the Jammers (33-34) back below .500 with one game left on the 12-game road trip.
Terrence Dayleg had the lone extra-base hit for the Jammers as the team was held to just four hits after pounding out 23 total hits in the two previous games.
While the offense struggled, the Jammers jumped out to an early lead in the third on a pair of Mahoning Valley miscues.
Kentrell Dewitt fanned to begin the frame but reached base when the ball got away from catcher Jake Lowery. Austin Barnes followed with a walk before the pair advanced 90 feet on a wild pitch by Danny Jimenez. Then, Brian McConkey made them pay for the mistakes with a two-run single to center.
Urena worked out of trouble through ï¬Âve innings to maintain the advantage, but timely hits and a pair of errors let Mahoning Valley take the lead in the sixth.
Aaron Siliga reached on a throwing error with one out. Bryson Myles and Tony Wolters then delivered back-to-back singles with Wolters scoring two runs when the ball got away from Brian McConkey in the outï¬Âeld. Lowery singled in the go-ahead run then he scored on a ground out by Alex Lavisky to make it 4-2.
That score would hold up, but Jamestown made things interesting in the ninth as they brought the winning run to the plate.
Barnes walked and Josh Adams ripped a single to right with one down, but Dayleg grounded into a force out and Enosil Tejeda struck out Nestor Castillo to earn his 11th save and end the game.
Jack Wagoner earned the win for the Scrappers after tossing two perfect frames with one strikeout.
