-SPIKES START ROLE AS SPOILER TONIGHT VS. DOUBLEDAYS: After last night's game against the Jamestown Jammers was postponed to Thursday at Russell Diethrick Park due to rain, the State College Spikes now welcome the Pinckney Division-leading Auburn Doubledays to Medlar Field at Lubrano Park to start a three-game series. Auburn currently holds a two-game lead on Batavia (and a 7.5-game lead on the Spikes) in the division. State College is 2-5 against Auburn this year.
-LAST GAME: Clay Holmes yielded just two hits and one walk over five scoreless innings, and the State College Spikes' early offensive surge keyed a 5-0 win over the Jamestown Jammers on Saturday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Holmes also struck out one batter and faced the minimum nine batters over his first three innings. D.J. Crumlich went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI, and knocked in the last run of a four-run second inning for the Spikes.
-CREASY GETS THE BALL FOR SPIKES TONIGHT: Right-hander Jason Creasy takes to the hill tonight for his team-leading 13th start of the year, after being scheduled to start last night. Last time out, Creasy went 4 1/3 innings at Williamsport, allowing two runs on five hits, two walks and a hit batsman while striking out one in a no-decision. The eighth-round draft choice of the Pirates in 2011 has not yet faced Auburn this season.
-ENCARNACION GETS MOUND START FOR AUBURN: Right-hander Pedro Encarnacion, who has faced the Spikes in his last outing, is slated to start for the Doubledays tonight. Encarnacion, who started his pro career with the Dominican Summer League Nationals in 2009, got the win over State College on Tuesday after tossing six one-run innings and striking out six batters. The native Dominican has gone at least six frames in each of his last three starts.
-THE LONG AND THE SHORT OF IT: Three nights after playing the shortest nine-inning pro game in Medlar Field at Lubrano Park history at just 1 hour, 49 minutes, the Spikes take on the team against whom they have played their two longest games of the year. On August 16, State College and Auburn took 3 hours, 18 minutes to finish a 10-8 Doubledays win. Then, on August 21, the Spikes downed Auburn in 12 innings, 5-4, in a 3-hour, 41-minute affair.
-SPIKE MARKS: Tyler Gaffney's five triples are tied for second in the NYPL...Tom Harlan's six losses are tied for third in the league...Samuel Gonzalez leads the NYPL with 5 sacrifice flies...State College pitchers have allowed just 16 home runs, least in the NYPL...RHP John Kuchno and RHP Isaac Sanchez each debuted for the Spikes on Saturday, with Kuchno making his professional debut
