Stars to Have Two Aaa Teams this Fall
March 7, 2024 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Lincoln Stars News Release
The Lincoln Stars are proud to announce that they will have both 16U AAA and 18U AAA teams in Lincoln beginning this fall.
This fall will represent the third year of AAA hockey in Lincoln. Similar to Stars players, AAA players stay with billet parents in town, unless they are local. They will also receive the opportunity to practice and train in a United States Hockey League facility as they look to climb to the next level in their hockey career.
The Lincoln Stars AAA program is led by Curtis Brown, a 13-year NHL veteran. He was a second round pick in the 1994 NHL Draft and went on to play in 736 NHL games from 1995-2008 while twice topping 20 goals in a season. Brown has three sons who all played AAA hockey, including Griffin with the Stars' 16U AAA team this season. His other two sons, Gage and Garrett, are currently playing college hockey.
Brown is assisted by two former members of the Stars' USHL team, Chad Kline and Ethan Price. Kline was part of the Stars' inaugural season that ended with claiming the Clark Cup in 1997. He played collegiately at Western Michigan and eventually moved to Lincoln to call it home full time. Price appeared in 87 USHL games, 30 of which came with Lincoln in 2014-15 while also playing 244 games in the Western Hockey League. He eventually went on to become captain of Grant MacEwan University in Canada before playing professionally in France.
The Lincoln Stars USHL and AAA are heavily involved as four of Lincoln's selections 2023 USHL Phase I Draft have played for the AAA team this season (Brown, Aidan Janz, Sam Kline and Aaron Sachs). Brown scored in his fourth USHL game while Janz has suited up in 27 USHL games. Sachs appeared in preseason action between the pipes with the Stars once.
Registration is now open for players born between 2006-09. Tryouts will take place Apr. 13-14 at the Ice Box. Registration is $150 and can be done now at lincolnstars.com. Please note that to fully complete your registration you will receive an email to process payment. Players who register will receive a tryout jersey, tickets to an upcoming Stars game and the opportunity to make one of the two AAA teams.
