Lincoln Stars News Release

LINCOLN, Neb. - The Lincoln Stars (10-22-2) scored first for the second consecutive night, but their winless streak hit eight games as the Omaha Lancers (22-15-1) completed a three-game sweep with a 3-1 victory on Saturday night at the Ice Box.

Clay Hanus continued his impressive play right off the hop, firing a shot from the left circle past Reilly Herbst at 7:43. Cole Craft and Aidan Thompson picked up the assists on Hanus' fourth goal of the season. The 19-year-old defenseman's goal on a delayed penalty marked his fourth straight game with a point.

Lincoln played a solid first period, heading into the locker room up 1-0 after 20 minutes.

In the second, Omaha began to push back with a flurry of offensive chances. Zach Dubinsky finally solved Ryan Ouellette on an odd-man rush for the Lancers at 3:54. Dubinsky's third goal in the last two games against the Stars was lone strike in the middle frame. Lincoln was outshot 21-12 after 40 minutes in a tied game.

The Stars' puck luck turned from bad to worse in the third period when Nikolai Mayorov accidentally knocked the puck into his own net while trying to clear it away from the low slot. The goal was credited to Cam Mitchell at 4:54.

Lincoln couldn't force overtime despite a few chances on the power play in the third period. Ryan Lautenbach added an empty-net tally to seal their fourth straight win over the Stars with under seven seconds left in the game. Ouellette made 30 of 32 saves while Herbst amassed 15 saves in the victory.

The Stars were 0-for-4 on the power play and 1-for-4 on the penalty kill since Lautenbach's empty-netter came on a Lancers man-advantage. Cross Hanas was ejected from the game at 4:44 of the second period after receiving his second 10-minute misconduct of the night. Noah Laba was also assessed a game misconduct for head contact with under three minutes remaining in regulation.

###

The Stars will begin another three-game week by matching up against the Sioux Falls Stampede at the Ice Box on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m.
