Kearney, NE. - The Tri-City Storm dropped the final game of the weekend and the final game of an eight-game homestand on Sunday by a final score of 6-3 to the Sioux City Musketeers. Carter Mazur (2) and Adam Klapka scored Tri-City's goals in the loss. The Storm return to action on Friday in a road matchup against the Omaha Lancers. Adam Klapka scored his sixth goal of the season at 8:53 of the 1st period to give Tri-City a 1-0 lead in the game. The goal was assisted by Mark Estapa and Kyler Kovich. Estapa's assist was his sixteenth of the season. The assist for Kovich was his seventh of the year. Klapka's goal was scored with a slapshot from the right circle following a pass from Estapa from beneath the goal line. Carter Mazur netted his fifteenth goal of the season with less than two minutes to play in the 1st period to put Tri-City ahead by two goals. Mazur's goal was scored at 18:19 of the 1st period and was assisted by Matthew Knies and Isac Jonsson. Knies and Jonsson each notched their fourteenth assists of the year on the play. Jonsson guided the puck to Knies, who then passed it in front of the net, and Mazur lifted it around Musketeers' goaltender Alex Tracy for the goal. The goal was scored on the power-play and gave Tri-City a 2-0 lead. The Storm outshot the Musketeers 12-5 in the 1st period.
Sioux City netted each of the 2nd period's goals to force a 2-2 tie entering the 3rd period. Brian Carrabes scored both goals for the Musketeers. Carrabes' first goal of the game and fourteenth goal of the season was scored at 2:51 of the 2nd period. Carrabes broke over the offensive blue line and fired a shot into the upper right portion of the net for Sioux City's opening goal of the game. Carrabes second goal of the period and fifteenth goal of the season was scored on the power-play at the 13:17 mark of the 2nd period. Shai Buium gave Carrabes a pass in the high slot and he drove the puck into the upper portion of the net for the game-tying goal. Sioux City outshot Tri-City 14-8 in the 2nd period and the game entered the 3rd period in a 2-2 tie.
Carter Mazur scored his second goal of the game and sixteenth goal of the season less than one minute into the 3rd period to give Tri-City a 3-2 lead in the game. Mazur's goal was assisted by Isac Jonsson and Cole McWard. The goal was scored on the power-play fifty-seven seconds into the 3rd period following Brenden Olson's charging penalty twenty-one seconds into the period. Jonsson recorded his second assist of the game and fifteenth assist of the season on the play. McWard's assist was his fourteenth of the season and his thirteenth power-play point of the year. Following a shot towards the goal by Isac Jonsson that was blocked in front of the Sioux City net, Mazur scooped up the puck and buried the goal to put the Storm ahead by one. At 6:34 of the 3rd period, Doug Grimes scored his fourth goal of the year to tie the game at 3-3. Grimes' goal was scored at the top of the goal crease following a rebound opportunity. Chase Bradley scored his eleventh goal of the season at 12:58 to give Sioux City its first lead of the game. Bradley's goal was assisted by Justin Hryckowian and Shai Buium. The goal was scored into the upper portion of the net from the bottom of the left circle. At 17:55 of the 3rd period, Gabe Blanchard was credited with an unassisted goal to give the Musketeers a two-goal lead in the game. The goal was netted on the power-play after Tri-City scored into its own net following an attempt to clear the puck out of the zone on the penalty kill. Sioux City's Ethan Edwards scored his sixth goal of the year into an empty net to seal the 6-3 victory for Sioux City at 19:05 of the 3rd period. Sioux City outshot Tri-City 12-8 in the 3rd period and 31-28 in the game.
Todd Scott made twenty-five saves on thirty shots and recorded the loss in goal for Tri-City. Alex Tracy made twenty-five saves on twenty-eight shots to record the victory in goal for Sioux City. The Storm dropped to 20-12-2-21 on the 2020-2021 regular season in the loss. Tri-City is now 11-5-2-0 in home games played at the Viaero Center this season. The team now prepares for a three-game weekend on the road against Omaha, Sioux City, and Waterloo. Attendance for Sunday's home game at the Viaero Center was 2,003.
