
Stars Set Record Straight, Going Two-for-Two Against Squadron

SALT LAKE CITY - The Salt Lake City Stars, the official NBA G League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, defeated the Birmingham Squadron 110-108 at the Legacy Arena tonight, claiming the back-to-back set two-for-two.
All five Stars starters recorded double-digits on the night. Salt Lake City was paced for the third game in a row by guard Frank Jackson, claiming 18 points, four rebounds, and three assists. Utah Jazz two-way player Johnny Juzang finished with 17 points to lead all Stars reserves. Meanwhile, starting guard Christian Vital tallied 17 points, four rebounds, and three assists. Tyler Cook notched a double-double with 16 points to go with 11 rebounds and five assists. Tyler Cook recorded his second double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds, to go with five assists. Jeenathan Williams also collected 16 points and Rawle Alkins claimed 12, going five-for-five from the field.
The Squadron were led by Feron Hunt who tallied a double-double on the night with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Kelan Martin finished with 23 points and five rebounds. Dereon Seabron recorded 20 points and served out seven assists.
The Stars came out of the gate strong, jumping to a 29-23 lead at the end of the first quarter and they did not look back. Salt Lake City continued to dominate on both ends of the floor after the first, extending their lead to 18 points (45-27) with just 5:21 left to play before the break. After intermission a basket-for-basket battle broke out as the Squadron cut their deficit to single-digits. However, the Stars remained on top, entering the final frame 82-72. Both teams fought to the final seconds before Salt Lake City claimed victory in their second match-up against the Squadron 110-108
Salt Lake City held the edge in blocks (6-0), points in the paint (66-64) and second chance points (16-5) while Birmingham owned the advantage in rebounds (47-41) and steals (8-7). The biggest difference in the game came down to field goal percentage, with Salt Lake City outshooting Birmingham (.529 -.446).
The Stars will return to Salt Lake City to host the Fort Wayne Mad Ants (Indiana Pacers affiliate) on Thursday, Jan. 19, at 7 p.m. (MT) at Vivint Arena for "Throwback Night". The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
