Lincoln Stars News Release
Lincoln, Neb. - The Lincoln Stars named Mike Gillespie, Jake Nielsen and Christian Evers alternate captains for the 2016-2017 season on Thursday.
Captain Dylan Woolf and the Stars coaching staff worked together to make the decision.
"These are guys with experience that are big part of what we do here and what we're trying to be," Stars coach Chris Hartsburg said. "They're mature young men that can handle the responsibility."
Gillespie enters his third season with the Stars after rejoining the team midway through last year. The Western Michigan commit has 49 points in 82 USHL games.
"It's an honor," Gillespie said. "The coaching staff trusts me and I trust them so I'm very privileged."
Nielsen has played parts of three USHL seasons, recording 11 points in 68 games. The St. Lawrence commit was acquired from the Chicago Steel in the offseason.
"It's an honor to be named an alternate captain for the Lincoln Stars," Nielsen said. "We have a great group here and I'm excited to get things started with our home opener on Friday."
Evers enters his final USHL season after spending two years with the United States National Development Team Program and one with the Stars. The North Dakota commit has 30 points in through 100 career games.
The Stars regular season home opener is set for Friday, Sept. 23 against the Tri-City Storm. Individual tickets are on sale.
