Lincoln Stars News Release
LINCOLN, Neb. - The Lincoln Stars (10-18-2) started slow, dropping their fourth consecutive game as the Sioux City Musketeers (16-17-1) took home a 8-2 victory on Saturday night at the Ice Box.
Similarly to last night's game in Sioux City, the Musketeers began the game with a ferocious attack, scoring early. Brian Carrabes took advantage of a Stars giveaway at 3:26, Ethan Edwards poked one home at 8:19 and Christian Jimenez lit the lamp at 10:55.
Lincoln was outshot 10-8 in the first period and down 3-0.
Tabor Heaslip scored his third goal against the Stars this season at 7:08 of the second period, making it 4-0 Sioux City. Chase Bradley fired one through Ryan Ouellette at 14:54.
Nikolai Mayorov finally broke through for Lincoln at 17:11 after being sprung on a breakaway by Griffin Jurecki. Mayorov blew a wrister past Alex Tracy for his fourth goal of the season. Jurecki picked up his first USHL point with the assist.
After two periods, the Stars trailed 5-1 and were outshot 22-14.
Aidan McCarthy entered the game to start the third period, but the Musketeers continued the scoring brigade. Jimenez scored his second of the game at 53 seconds and Joel Maatta tallied at 5:19.
Noah Laba scored on the man-advantage at 15:38, tying for the league lead in power-play goals among rookies with four. Laba's goal was assisted by Mayorov and Cross Hanas. Shai Buium added a late goal for Sioux City at 18:33.
Alex Tracy picked up his eighth win of the season in net for Sioux City, stopping 26 shots. Ouellette made 17 saves on 29 shots while McCarthy turned aside three of five.
Lincoln was perfect again on the penalty kill, extinguishing all four Musketeer power plays. The Stars were 1-for-4 on the power play.
Hanas, Gleb Veremyev, Jack O'Leary and Nick Nardecchia all dropped the gloves in the game.
