SALT LAKE CITY - The Salt Lake City Stars fell to the Mexico City Capitanes 111-103 despite an impressive performance by Stars' six-man Christian Vital with 22 points and nine rebounds.

The Stars had five players score in double figures as they were led by Vital's 22 points. Jazz two-way player Micah Potter secured a double-double on the night, totaling 13 points and 15 rebounds while shooting 5-of-12 from the field and 3-of-6 from behind the arc. Center Jeenathan Williams added 17 points on 7-of-18 from the field and 3-of-10 from downtown, while corralling eight rebounds and five assists. Isaiah Miller helped the squad to victory posting 18 points and five boards, and Rawle Alkins registered 13 points for Salt Lake City.

Salt Lake City started off strong using a switching man-to-man defense along with a zone defense to keep the Capitanes off balance in the first quarter as the Stars led 27-22. However, they struggled in the second frame with their transition defense, giving up 38 points to Mexico City, who scored on several fast-breaks. The Stars continued to hustle throughout the second quarter as they outrebounded the Capitanes despite a ten-point deficit to conclude the half. The Stars managed to cut the lead to single digits in the third, before Jeenathan Williams' three-point shot brought Salt Lake City back with a vengeance as they trailed by only a single point with just three minutes to play in the final frame. The contest remained a close match when Micah Potter managed to set the Stars in position for a final comeback at 103-105 with less than a minute on the clock. However, Mexico City used penalty shots to their advantage and secured the victory 111-103 in the teams' first regular season game.

Capitanes guard Mason Jones paced Mexico City with a game-high 35 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Meanwhile, Gary Clark notched 26 points and an additional seven boards for Mexico City. Coming off the bench Kenneth Faried logged a double-double in 23:09 minutes of play with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

The Stars and Capitanes will face off again Friday night in Mexico City for a comeback contest at 7 p.m. MT.
