CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Charge were defeated by the Grand Rapids Gold, 108-104, in the first game of the 2022-23 NBA G League regular season in front of a new Cleveland Charge record crowd of 4,591 at the Wolstein Center on Wednesday night.
Cleveland was led by a trio of 20+ point scorers, including Mamadi Diakite's 28 points with nine rebounds and three blocks in 37 minutes. Isaiah Mobley scored 23 points on an efficient 10-of-11 shooting with seven boards and six assists in 33 minutes. Sharife Cooper scored 22 points and dished out nine assists in 36 minutes.
Denver Nuggets assignment Peyton Watson paced Grand Rapids with a game-high 29 points on 11-of-17 from the field with nine boards and two blocks in 36 minutes. Jared Butler scored 24 points on 11-of-14 from the field with six assists in 26 minutes. Grant Golden posted a double-double of 23 points and 14 rebounds in 39 minutes for the Gold.
