
Stars Fall in Game 1 to Stampede, 5-3

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Lincoln Stars (0-1-0) jumped out early but fell 5-3 to the Sioux Falls Stampede (1-0-0) in Game 1 of the Western Conference First Round on Tuesday night from Denny Sanford Premier Center.
The Stars jumped ahead early at 3:53 of the first period when forward Logan Jenuwine flipped a shot in front of the net to take a 1-0 lead. The Stampede answered back with two goals from forward Kevin Conley and defenseman A.J. Villela at 12:43 and 13:09, respectively, taking a 2-1 lead.
The Stampede scored first in the second period at 4:19 thanks to defenseman Jack St. Ivany to double the lead, 3-1. Stars defenseman Cole Krygier converted after three-straight shots at 7:38 to draw the Stars within one, 3-2. Stampede forward Kirill Panyukov netted a tally at 13:30, moving the lead to 4-2.
Stampede forward Cameron Burke pushed the home team ahead 5-2 with a shorthanded goal at 9:22 of the third period. The Stars found life late with a power play goal at 18:30 to come within two, 5-3. However, the Stars couldn't come back and fell by the same scoreline.
Stampede goaltender Mikhail Berdin (1-0-0) halted 34 of 37 shots in the win. Stars netminder Tomáš Vomá?ka (0-1-0) stopped 12 of 16 shots in the loss, and Derek Schaedig saved eight of nine shots in 20:00 minutes of relief. The Stars and Stampede meet for Game 2 of the Western Conference First Round Series on Wednesday, Apr. 18 at 7:05 p.m. from the Denny Sanford Premier Center.
