Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Waterloo, Iowa - Waterloo Black Hawks fans donated generously in honor of the Humboldt Broncos hockey club involved in this month's fatal bus accident in Saskatchewan.

Various fundraising and collection efforts from the final two regular season home games at Young Arena yielded a total of $10,005.78.

"The healing in Humboldt may not come quickly or easily, but I think I speak for our fans when I say, 'We're thinking of you, and we're praying for you,'" said Black Hawks Vice President of Sales and Marketing Joe Greene. "I am proud to be part of a hockey community here in the Cedar Valley with such a passion to make the world better through our sport."

Hundreds of fans in attendance Saturday wore green and gold - the Broncos' team colors - as the cheered Waterloo on to and Anderson Cup-clinching win versus the Des Moines Buccaneers. Those fans:

- Offered contributions into one of the "Broncos Buckets" passed around the rink

- Purchased chuck-a-pucks, with all proceeds donated

- Made bids on various memorabilia contributed by other fans for an impromptu auction

- Bought commemorative decals like those worn on Black Hawks player helmets, with all proceeds donated

In addition, one dollar from each ticket sold was put into the fund as the Hawks welcomed the largest crowd of the season to the rink. The Waterloo Black Hawks Booster Club took up a separate collection which is also part of the total. As previously announced, the figure also wraps in the entire balance of the Slumberland Furniture Fan's Choice Player of the Year fund.

Sixteen members of the Broncos' team and staff were traveling to a game on April 6th when they collided with a semi-truck. The other 13 on the bus were injured.

The Black Hawks and those in attendance for last Saturday's game also paid tribute to the Humboldt team during a special pregame ceremony, in partnership with the Buccaneers.
