Stars Defeat Storm, 3-1

Kearney, Neb. - A two-goal first period helped the Lincoln Stars defeat the Tri-City Storm, 3-1, in the Viaero Center on Tuesday.

The win improved Lincoln's record to 23-14-5 and moved the team into a tie for fourth place in the Western Conference.

Dylan Woolf opened the scoring for the Stars at 6:38 of the first, catching a pass from Dominick Mersch, sliding four feet off the wall and ripping a slap shot past Storm goalie Logan Halladay. Mersch and Jake Nielsen had assists on Woolf's fifth goal of the season.

Despite being outshot, 18-2, in the first, the Storm equalized at 15:43 of the period with Adam Goodsir's power play goal. Luke Jaycox put the Stars back in front with less than two minutes remaining in the first after capitalizing on a turnover in front of the Storm net. Jaycox's goal marked his first of the season.

Neither team scored in the second period, setting up a third period where the Stars had multiple chances before sealing victory with an empty netter from Casey Dornbach at 18:50 of the third period. Lincoln outshot the Storm 36-15. Collin Peters assisted on the empty netter.

The Stars finished 0/1 on the power play and 3/4 on the penalty kill. Cayden Primeau finished with 14 saves.
