Stanwyck's Strong Start Enough for Bullfrogs
July 18, 2012 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Green Bay Rockers News Release
In the longest outing of the year for any Bullfrogs pitcher, Harry Stanwyck went eight innings while allowing only one earned run, and the Bullfrogs improved to 5-8 with a 5-1 victory over the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters.
The Rafters struck first in the second inning. Pat Kelly walked, stole second, and then came home to score on a single to right-field by Brandon Downes. This gave the Rafters their only run and a 1-0 lead.
The Bullfrogs tied it up in the third inning. Collin Shaw and David Armendariz each singled to begin the inning. From third, Shaw then scored on a safety squeeze bunt off the bat of Brooks Orton.
Green Bay took the lead in the fifth. Shaw once again led off with a single. He then scored from first on Armendariz's second triple of the season to give the Bullfrogs a 2-1.
The game remained at 2-1 until the eighth inning. After blowing leads late in three of their last four losses, the Bullfrogs tacked on three important insurance runs to make it a 5-1 game through eight innings.
RBIs in the inning went to Jason McMurray, who plated Brooks Orton and Billy Moon with a single, and Nick Stein, who drove home Ransom LaLonde with a single two batters later.
In a non-save situation, Will Landsheft set down the Rafters in order in the top of the ninth to close out the game.
Harry Stanwyck improves to 3-1 on the season with the win.
