Alexandria Beetles News Release

Willmar, MN - Behind a five-run third, the Willmar Stingers (28-20, 8-5) knocked off the Alexandria Beetles (20-28, 7-6) by a 7-2 final on Tuesday night in a battle of first place teams to begin their three game series.

The five runs were all unearned as the Beetles committed three errors in the inning with a two-RBI single from Michael Suchy and a two-RBI double from Kenny Roberts driving in four against Beetle starter Ali Simpson (1-1).

Alexandria managed a pair against Wilmer starter Jerad McCrummen (5-1) who went five to earn his second win of the year against the Beetles. In the fifth, Matt Lowenstein singled with one out, part of his 11th multi-hit game in 15 games this summer, and Tanner Vavra doubled him to third. A Ben Moore ground-out, for his league-leading 52nd RBI, cut the deficit to 5-1 and Vavra came in to score on a wild pitch with Will Fulmer at the plate.

But that was all Alexandria could manage against McCrummen and reliever Andrew Pulido and the Stingers scored single runs in the sixth, on another Suchy single, and the seventh, on a double from Forrestt Allday. Allday finished a homerun shy of the cycle.

Fulmer extended his on-base streak to 31 with a third-inning walk and his hit streak to 18 with a fifth-inning double. Willmar's Corben Green saw his 20-game hit streak snapped with an 0-3 including two strikeouts.

The teams return to the field in Alexandria on Wednesday night at 7:05 CDT.
