Calgary Hitmen News Release
Portland, OR - The Calgary Hitmen improved to 3-1 on their season high seven game road trip with a 3-2 win over the Portland Winterhawks on Wednesday night at the Moda Center.
Goaltender Carl Stankowski made 38 saves in first star performance for Calgary. Among his work, a remarkable mid-air stick blade stop while reaching back in the second period.
Tied 1-1 after 40 minutes, the turning point came early in the third period when the Hitmen struck for a pair of goals in the first eight minutes. The first came off the stick of James Malm, the second on a breakaway from Riley Stotts. Jake Kryski provided the other Calgary goal on a second period power play.
Cody Glass and John Ludvig replied for Portland who outshot the Hitmen 40-28.
The road trip continues Friday, Nov. 23 against the Seattle Thunderbirds before a visit to Tri-City (Nov. 24). The swing will then conclude in Red Deer on Nov. 30.
The Hitmen won't be back in the Scotiabank Saddledome until Saturday, Dec. 1 when they host the Edmonton Oil Kings.
