Brandon, MB. - In the first battle of the Kings this season, it was the Edmonton Oil Kings scoring a 4-1 victory over the hometown Brandon Wheat Kings Wedesday night.

Former Wheat King netminder Dylan Myskiw turned aside 30 Brandon shots and Quinn Benjafield scored twice as Edmonton rallied from an early first period deficit by scoring four unanswered goals, including three in the first period.

This was the first game between these two teams since Brandon sent Myskiw to the Oil Kings during the pre-season.

With the win, Edmonton improved to 14-8-1-2 while the Wheat Kings fell to 10-6-3-3. Brandon has now lost back to back home games and slipped to 2-2-0-1 through the first five games of its current six game home stand.

Brett Kemp and Troy Fix-Wolansky rounded out the scoring for the Oil Kings while captain Stelio Mattheos scored in a losing cause for the Wheat Kings.

For Mattheos, it was his team leading 19th goal of the season.

Netminder Jiri Patera made 31 saves in a losing cause.

The Wheat Kings inexperience on the blueline showed on this night, with Edmonton winning the majority of battles down low and keeping Brandon bottled up in their own zone at times. Due to injury, the Wheat Kings went with four rookie defencemen and were forced to play without injured veterans Schael Higson and Braden Schneider.

"Our team game needs to take a step and get better," Brandon coach David Anning told the Brandon Sun following the game. "It needs to get back to the way it was because right now we don't really have a plan and it's not helping us offensively or in any aspect of our game."

The Wheat Kings will be hoping to bounce back when the Lethbridge Hurricanes pay their second visit of the season to Brandon.

Members of the Wheat Kings will be donning special Agriculture theme jerseys Friday, which will be auctioned off throughout the WHL game.

All proceeds from the sale of the jerseys will be donated to 4-H Manitoba.

Tickets to the game go back on sale at 10am Thursday at the Keystone Centre box office. Fans can also order online at keystonecentre.com or by calling (204) 726-3555.
