Portland Winterhawks News Release

On Thanksgiving Eve, the Hawks lost a one-goal game against the Hitmen. Calgary scored twice in the third period to break a tie and win 3-2 at the Moda Center.

An up-tempo first period resulted in the Hawks scoring first. Just shy of our first period media timeout, Cody Glass received a bumper pass at the blue line and was given time and space to skate to the slot. He drifted a puck far side on Carl Stankowski to take a 1-0 lead.

Portland came back from the intermission and peppered a bushel of shots on Calgary, thanks in part to a couple power play opportunities. Stankowski stopped all 18 shots he faced in the middle period, and his team found the equalizer in the second. On a power play, Jake Kryski wrapped in his 11th of the season passed the left pad of Shane Farkas.

The Hawks were buzzing in the offensive end of the rink to close the period. Mason Mannek rang a wrist shot off the bar and the teams went to the locker room in a 1-1 contest.

Calgary scored twice in the third period to take their first lead of the night. James Malm netted his 12th of the year moments after the Hitmen killed a penalty, and Riley Stotts scored on a slot wrist shot blocker side of Farkas to increase the Calgary lead to 3-1.

The Hawks never gave up hope, as Jaydon Dureau and Mason Mannek found John Ludvig on the opposite post for his first of the season. Calgary did not relinquish their third period lead and controlled the final minutes of the game to earn their ninth win of the season.

Stankowski stopped a career high 38 shots en route to the victory.

Portland turns its attention to the television game when they take on the Seattle Thunderbirds on Saturday, November 24th at Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Puck drop is set for 6:00 p.m. and it will be televised on Portland's CW 32. Individual tickets are now on sale.
