April 30, 2008 - Canadian Football League (CFL)
Calgary Stampeders News Release
With the third overall pick in Wednesday's CFL Canadian Draft, the Calgary Stampeders selected offensive lineman Jesse Newman.
Newman is a product of Louisiana-Lafayette University, where he was a first-team Sun Belt Conference all-star. He was a second-team conference lineman in his sophomore season.
"Coming into the draft, Jesse was a player we really wanted," said Stamps head coach/general manager John Hufnagel. "He's a four-year starter at left tackle and will be ready to compete at training camp. With him and (second-overall pick) Dimitri Tsoumpas we added depth, youth and talent to our offensive line."
Newman is six-foot four, 308 pounds.
