Calgary Stampeders News Release

Calgary Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce that import defensive tackle Tearrius George has signed with the club and import defensive end Charleston Hughes has reported to the team.

Hughes joins the team following time with the Philadelphia Eagles and the club now has five days to designate him to the roster.

"Charleston and Tearrius have both been very productive CFL players, so we're happy to have them back with the Stampeders," said Hufnagel. "Our team is moving in the right direction and I look forward to seeing what they bring to the defence."

George originally joined the Red and White in 2007 following time with the New York Jets. He led the Stamps with four tackles for loss and tied for the team lead in sacks with eight. George then spent time with the Dallas Cowboys, Miami Dolphins and New Orleans Saints.

Hughes was a member of the 2008 Grey Cup champion Stampeders. He appeared in 16 regular-season games and shared the team lead in sacks with five. He was second on the team with 66 tackles, including a CFL-leading 12 tackles for loss, and also had one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and five pass knockdowns. Hughes recovered a crucial fumble in the West Final and made four tackles in the game that sent the Stamps to the Grey Cup. He signed with Philadelphia in the off-season.

The next Stamps home game is Sept. 25 against the BC Lions. Kickoff is 8 p.m. at McMahon Stadium. Tickets are still available and fans are encouraged to pick up their tickets by contacting Ticketmaster (403.777.0000 or online at Ticketmaster.ca) or visiting any local Safeway or Sport Chek location.
