
Stampeders take weekly honours

So far throughout the 2003 season Stampeder player's names were never associated with player of the week honors. That was until this week as several players came up huge performances vs the Eskimos.
The Stampeder Linebacker core swept the Defensive Player of the Week honors. As Willie Fells was given the honor recording 3 defensive tackles, 1 pass knock down, 1 interception (0 yards), 1 tackle for a loss (1 yard) and 1 quarterback sack (10 yards).
First runner up was Linebacker Otis Floyd who recorded 4 defensive tackles and intercepted Ricky Ray's 2nd quarter pass intended for the Stamps end zone. The 2nd runner up in this category was the 3rd linebacker George White who also had a very strong game recording 4 defensive tackles, 1 special team tackle, 1 quarterback sack and 1 knock down.
This was not the only weekly honors the Stampeders dominated this week as receiver James Hundon was named Special Team Player of the Week. He recorded 2 punt returns for 12 yards and 2 kick off returns for 149 yards. One of those returns Hundon exploded down field for a 103 yard Stampeder touchdown.
The 1st runner-up in this category was receiver Wane McGairy who had 1 punt return for 10 yards and returned a missed field goal for a 126 yard touchdown.
The Stampeders will be right back at it this week as they travel to Edmonton to play the Eskimos on Friday, September 5th with kick-off at 7:30 pm.
