Sales are Good
"Ben had a busy night, he knew how to get open and did a good job of selling the routes. I was impressed with his overall leads up the play and the deceptive speed he used to get the job done. On the night, he was both a possession and a home run receiver."
1st Runner-Up: Charles Roberts #1, Winnipeg Blue Bombers
2nd Runner-Up: Lawrence Phillips #6, Calgary Stampeders
Judge: Ellison Kelly
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
LB â WILLIE FELLS #39

The Wonders of Willie
"The inspired play of the Linebacking unit of the Stampeders was instrumental in the defeat of the Eskimos. Fells, the middle linebacker, was everywhere. He either showed good depth on his drops, almost intercepting a pass or in the backfield throwing the quarterback for a 10 yard loss. His comrades in mayhem, Floyd and White, combined for eight individual tackles, an interception, a quarterback sack and a pass knockdown. This unit was ready and prepared and they have set a high standard of play for the next Edmonton game."
1st Runner-Up: Otis Floyd #35, Calgary Stampeders
2nd Runner-Up: George White #38, Calgary Stampeders
Judge: Bob Krouse
LINEMAN OF THE WEEK
OT â CHRIS BURNS #55
OTTAWA RENEGADES
Stats
Game #55 â Montreal 38 @ Ottawa 43
- Outstanding O-Line play
He Opened the Flood Gates with Ease
"The most impressive part of his game was the quick, âheavy hand pop' he showed. When he connected defenders were knocked off the ball and re-directed in a heartbeat. Everything appeared to be so easy for Burns that night. He seemed to enjoy every minute of the game! Chris was in control all of the time and the Renegades ran his area often."
1st Runner-Up: Sheldon Napastuk #92, Calgary Stampeders
2nd Runner-Up: Joe Montford #53, Hamilton Tiger-Cats
Judge: Ellison Kelly
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
WR â JAMES HUNDON #89
CALGARY STAMPEDERS
Stats
Game #58 â Edmonton 22 @ Calgary 28
2 punt Ret. (12 yds), 3 Kickoff Ret. (149 yrds., LG 103, 1 TD).
Hundon was the Turning Point
"In a hard fought Labour Day Classic, with emotions high and the Eskimos having just taken the lead. They appeared to have all of the momentum until James Hundon caught a punted ball on his own seven yard line, broke to the middle of the field and exploded down a seam, (created by outstanding blocking) he raced 103 yards for a touchdown. Calgary regained the lead, the momentum and held on for the win after six straight losses."
1st Runner-Up: Wane McGarity #86, Calgary Stampeders
2nd Runner-Up: Noel Prefontaine #1, Toronto Argonauts
Judge: Bob Krouse
