Idaho Stampede News Release

Chenowith continues to make his mark
After winning the CBA Player of the Week honors for the week of December 19-25, Eric Chenowith has followed up with an amazing performance this past Thursday against the Sioux Falls Skyforce when he, again, broke the Stampede franchise single game rebounding mark with 29. This is second time this season that he set the rebounding record. The first time was November 26 when he grabbed 25 rebounds against the Dakota Wizards. Prior to this year, the Stampede single game record was held by Jerome Lane who had 24 rebounds against Yakama on December 1, 1998. Lane is still the CBA single game rebound leader with a mark of 33 which he set on March 20, 1996 against Sioux Falls when he was a member of the Oklahoma City Cavalry.

Chenowith remains the CBA leader in rebounds per game with 14.8. The next closest player is Brandon Hunter of Sioux Falls with 12.1 per game. Chenowith is on pace to grab 710 rebounds this year. The current record for rebounds in a season is 520 set by Sam Clancy last year. Additionally, Chenowith is the co-leader in total double-doubles this season. He and Hunter both have 14 on the season.

Stampede back to the friendly confines of Qwest
Monday is the final road game of a four game road trip for the Stampede. They then begin a four game home stand which begins this Friday, January 6 against the Michigan Mayhem at Qwest Arena.

The home court has been very productive for the Stampede this season. They are 8-2 at Qwest Arena and are currently on a six game home winning streak.

Last week was also positive for the Stampede. They built up their longest winning streak of the season to five straight before losing in Sioux Falls and continued their Eastern Conference domination as they beat the Mayhem and kept their perfect 6-0 record against the East. They will have a chance to extend their perfect record as three eastern teams will visit during this home stand as they welcome back Albany and Rockford will see Michigan for the first time at home.

Freije perfect amongst Mayhem
It does not happen often but occasionally a player does have that perfect game. It happened for Matt Freije last Saturday against the Michigan Mayhem. In a 120-96 win for the Stampede, Freije went 8 for 8 from the field including 4 for 4 from 3-point range and was 7 for 7 from the free throw line on his way to scoring 27.

Freije has been on fire as of late. In his last four games, Freije has averaged 26.0 points while shooting 56.9% from the field, 50% from the 3-point line and 80% from the free throw line. Additionally, he is averaging 5.5 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game.

All-star game is right around the corner
January 17th is rapidly approaching which means that the Athletes.com CBA All-Star Classic is almost here. This is potentially one of the biggest basketball events of 2006 in Boise which includes not only the all-star game but a dunk contest, 3-point shootout and other community activities.

Game credentials can be obtained by contacting Kris Kamann at the CBA League Office, 208-429-0101 extension 102 or by sending him an email at mediarelations@cbahoopsonline.com.

Rosters for the game will be announced this week. We expect the league to announce the Eastern Conference representatives this Wednesday and the Western Conference team on Thursday. Coaches will be determined next Monday, January 9 based on the league standings. For more details on the all-star game, visit www.CBAclassic.com.

Game Previews
(Through 1/1/2006)

Monday, January 2, 2006
Idaho Stampede at Sioux Falls Skyforce

This is the second time on this road trip that the Stampede will face the Skyforce. In their last match-up this past Thursday, the teams took the game into overtime. The Skyforce outscored the Stampede 12-8 to win 108-104. During the game, Eric Chenowith broke the Stampede single game rebound record (which he set earlier this season) with 29. Matt Freije scored 33 in the loss. Rodney Buford scored 30 for the Skyforce while Brandon Hunter scored 24 and grabbed 17 rebounds. Former Stampede player Noel Felix scored 18 and had 11 rebounds.

Friday, January 6, 2006
Michigan Mayhem at Idaho Stampede @ Qwest Arena

The Stampede are 2-0 against the Mayhem this season and this is the first time that the Mayhem have visited Boise this season. Matt Freije scored 27 in his perfect effort this past Saturday. Though the Mayhem had six players score in double figures, they could only manage 21 rebounds compared to the Stampede's 57.

Saturday, January 7, 2006
Rockford Lightning at Idaho Stampede @ Qwest Arena

The Stampede won the only other meeting between these two teams this season when they picked up 5 quarter points in a 105-104 victory. The Stampede put up a balanced attack with six players scoring in double figures but it was the play off the bench of Eric Washington that lifted the Stampede. Washington scored 25 points to lead all scorers.

This will be a good test for the Stampede to see where they stand overall in the league. Rockford is well ahead of everyone in the East and leads all teams in quarter points per game (4.4), team field goal percentage (52%), points per game (116.8) and is second in rebounding (45.9) to the Stampede (46.6).
