Stampede Guard Earns Honors

BOISE, ID (March 10, 2003) – Idaho Stampede guard Michael Johnson was named the CBA National Conference player of the week, it was announced today by the league office. The award marks the second time this season that a Stampede player has received the honor.

Over a four-game period, from March 2–9, Johnson led Idaho to a 3-1 record in the final week of the season, including a win over conference leading Dakota and two straight wins over the Yakima Sun Kings. During the week, the Oklahoma alum posted marks of 25.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 3.5 steals per game.

His game-by-game numbers are as follows:

3/2 vs. Yakima (win) 28 pts - 5 rebounds - 6 assists - 3 steals
3/4 vs. Dakota (loss) 36 pts - 4 rebounds - 7 assists - 7 steals
3/5 vs. Dakota (win) 24 pts - 8 rebounds - 6 assists - 3 steals
3/9 @ Yakima (win) 15 pts - 10 rebounds - 7 assists - 1 steal

Johnson also went 28 of 29 (.966) from the free throw line during the four games, leading the league in that category.

Earlier in the season, Idaho's Brian Green was named the National Conference Player of the Week for the week of Dec. 1-7.
