Idaho's White Named Coach of the Month
March 10, 2003 - NBA G League (G League)
Idaho Stampede News Release
BOISE, ID (March 10, 2003) â Idaho Stampede head coach Rory White was named the National Conference Coach of the Month, it was announced today. This is the first coaching award of the season for White, and his fourth overall CBA coaching award during his four years as a head coach in the CBA.
Since January 31, White's squad improved their quarter-point average by a league-best 0.3, from 2.6 to 2.9. In February and March Idaho averaged 3.4 quarter points per game (8-9), a 0.9 increase from its 2.5 mark in January. The Stampede also produced a Player of the Week award for guard Michael Johnson.
"I'm glad to be named Coach of the Month," said White. "We never gave up and we wanted to finish strong. I would much rather be in the playoffs, but I think I was able to show the players that through hard work and determination, you can still accomplish something like we did at the end of the season.
"Hopefully this will carry over and get us off on the right track next year.
Last season the South Alabama ('82) standout led the CBA's Fargo-Moorhead Beez to the National Conference playoffs and the second best record in the league (25-15, .625, 3.9 quarter point average), earning Coach of the Month honors for January (8-4, 4.16 quarter point average). In 2000-01 White earned December and January Coach of the Month honors at the helm of the Stampede, leading Idaho to a league best 17-7 (.708) record and 4.2 quarter point average.
