Sioux Falls Stampede News Release
SIOUX FALLS, SD - The Sioux Falls Stampede took down the Waterloo Black Hawks, 4-2, in Waterloo, Iowa on Friday night. Netting goals for the Stampede were JJ Wiebusch, Chris Pelosi, Jaksen Panzer and Beckett Hendrickson, while Michael Chambre added another win to his record.
The Herd started off the scoring with just 47 seconds remaining in the first period and remained the only goal scorers for over half of the game. JJ Wiebusch marked his 10th goal this season with help from Beckett Hendrickson, his 12th assist of the season. The Herd outshot the Black Hawks in the first period, 10-7, and fought hard throughout the game to get revenge on the Nov. 19, 6-4 loss to the Black Hawks.
Also outshooting the Black Hawks in the second period, 14-12, the Stampede increased its lead by two goals before the halfway point of the second period. Chris Pelosi found himself working solo when he grabbed a turnover and wrapped around the net, setting himself up for a goal on Waterloo's Calvin Vachon right side, putting the Stampede up 2-0. Jaksen Panzer then found his own goal exactly four minutes later, with help from Micah Berger and Tyler Borgula. Waterloo then prevented themselves from going scoreless for another period when John Mustard netted the Black Hawks' first goal of the night, 11:45 into the period.
Waterloo was able to close the gap by one more goal 11:14 into the final frame when Gavyn Thoreson found a goal off a rebound. This surge wouldn't be enough as the Herd would force the Black Hawks to pull their goaltender and Hendrickson would add his own empty-net goal on the scoreboard with passes from Wiebusch and Pelosi. Continuing the trend from the past two periods, the Herd outshot the Black Hawks in the third, but this time by a slimmer margin of 9-8.
A force between the pipes for the Herd, Michael Chambre posted a .926 save percentage, preventing 25-of-27 shots from entering his net. His 2.00 goals-against average moved his season average to 2.85 and his record to 6-2-1-1 with an overall .894 save percentage.
The Herd heads to Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Saturday to play the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders at 7:05 p.m. They'll then be back on Dec. 5 to host the Sioux City Musketeers for a Tuesday evening game, followed by Teddy Bear Toss Night and Star Wars Night, both against Muskegon, on Dec. 8 and 9. More info on December's promotional nights will be released soon. Tickets for all Stampede home games are available now through the KELOLAND box office, Stampede office, or any Ticketmaster outlets.
