Texas AirHogs News Release

SIOUX FALLS, SD - The AirHogs pitching staff put together its first shutout of the 2016 season to power a 5-0 series finale victory in Sioux Falls Sunday. The win earned the AirHogs a series split and helped them clinch the season series over the Canaries 4 games to 3. LHP David Wayne Russo got the ball as a starter for the first time this season after 29 appearances in relief and did not disappoint. He fired 5 scoreless innings, allowing just 2 hits and striking out 4 in earning his 2nd W of 2016.

The AirHogs bats built a lead vs. Canaries starter Ray Hanson in the 5th. After notching just 1 hit over the first 4 frames, the team exploded for 5 hits and 3 runs to establish a 3-0 advantage. Michael Valadez, Michael Hur and Juan Sanchez picked up RBIs in the inning.

Leon Byrd blasted his 2nd home run of the season to lead off the 6th, and Cory Morales added a sacrifice fly in the 8th to run the margin to 5-0. That was more than enough for Jack Karraker, Tyler Ihrig, Cody Culp and Tyler Harris, who threw 4 scoreless innings to seal the win.

AirHogs pitching allowed just 2 runners in scoring position in the contest. The corps held the Canaries to 9 hits and 2 runs over the final 18 innings of the series.

The AirHogs (27-46) return to Grand Prairie to open a 7-game homestand vs. Laredo and Joplin. First pitch tomorrow vs. the Lemurs is slated for 7:05. RHP Diego Ibarra is expected to start for the AirHogs.
