Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

GARY, IN- Edwin Carl took a no-hitter to the 6th inning and the Winnipeg Goldeyes (42-29) beat the Gary SouthShore RailCats (37-36) 4-1 in the series finale.

Carl didn't allow a base runner until Jarred Mederos reached on an error with two outs in the 3rd inning. The Goldeyes' right-hander was marvelous and earned the win in a seven-inning outing. He allowed just two hits, one run and one walk. Carl struck out six RailCats.

Charle Rosario was one inning shy of notching a quality start and did not factor in the decision. The RailCats' 'Ace' lasted five innings and didn't allow a run on two hits. He struck out six but walked a season-high six batters.

The RailCats took the first lead of the game in the inning where they managed their first hit. Reggie Wilson, playing in his first game for Gary SouthShore, hit a two-out triple to right-center field for the team's first hit. The next batter, Andy DeJesus, hit a hard ground ball that was misplayed by third baseman Wes Darvill to allow Wilson to score.

The RailCats held their 1-0 lead until the Goldeyes' offense came alive in the 8th. Winnipeg totaled four hits and two walks to score four runs off of Moises Melendez and Diosdany Castillo. Wes Darvill had the RBI that tied the game and he came around to score the fourth run of the inning.

Eric Eadington came on in the 9th and surrendered a leadoff hit to Tillman Pugh before retiring the next three batters to register the save.

The Winnipeg victory completed a four-game sweep of the RailCats, the first time Gary SouthShore was swept in four games since the season opener in St. Paul. The RailCats tallied four hits in the game, meaning they managed just six over the past two games. The team fell to 14-5 in day games and 9-3 on Sundays.

The RailCats stay at US Steel Yard to host the St. Paul Saints in a three-game series. That set begins tomorrow night with first pitch at 7:10. Coverage begins at 6:45 on 95.9 WEFM and railcatsbaseball.com.
