
Stadnyk, Cotton Lead Silvertips over Tigers

EVERETT - Carson Stadnyk scored both Everett goals and Daniel Cotton made 40 saves in net as the Silvertips defeated the Medicine Hat Tigers 2-1 Sunday evening at Comcast Arena. The game concluded a three-in-three weekend for the 'Tips, who earned four of six possible points and have now won three of their last four games.
Everett was steeply outshot by a 41-18 margin in the contest, but Cotton (6-4-0-0) stood on his head with only one powerplay goal against to keep the 'Tips even or ahead throughout the game. Stadnyk doubled his previous season total with two scores, including the game-winner in the third period. The Silvertips also killed off 6 of 7 Medicine Hat powerplays, with the Tigers denied the 'Tips on all three of their opportunities.
There was no score in the game through 20 minutes of play despite powerplays for both teams and a 14-3 shot edge for the Tigers. Everett was first to crack the scoreboard over halfway through the second stanza as Austin Adam released a shot from the blueline that was deflected in off Stadnyk's stick in front to put the 'Tips ahead 1-0 after two periods.
Medicine Hat tied the game at one on the powerplay at 7:34 of the third period when Curtis Valk scored on a one-timer from the top of the left circle. The Silvertips re-took took the lead five minutes later as Landon Oslanski slipped a nice centering pass to Stadnyk, who tucked the puck through Cam Lanigan's five goal from just outside the crease. Everett's penalty kill went back to work twice before the game ended, with Daniel Cotton and the 'Tips holding the Tigers at bay during a 6-on-4 disadvantage in the final moments to finish out the 2-1 victory.
Cam Lanigan (9-5-0-0) stopped 16 of 18 shots while taking the defeat in goal for Medicine Hat.
The Silvertips are back in action Wednesday night in Spokane against the Chiefs before returning to host a pair of home games over Thanksgiving weekend. Everett is set to battle the Kootenay Ice at 7:05 pm Saturday and the Kelowna Rockets at 5:05 pm Sunday at Comcast Arena.
