Portland Winterhawks News Release
Hawks Happenings On The Ice:
Friday afternoon is the first Burgerville Daylight Classic of the season, as the Hawks host the Kootenay Ice at 3 p.m. with the Veterans Memorial Coliseum's curtains open to allow sunlight into the arena bowl. Fans can take advantage of a great deal by purchasing four tickets to the game and a $30 Burgerville gift card all for just $65 (a $129 value) by clicking on the banner ad at winterhawks.com.
Winterhawks captain Troy Rutkowski reached the 300-game plateau Friday night in Kamloops. He ranks fifth in franchise history with 301 career games, and is just 25 games from tying the ream record of 326 games played, currently held by Kevin Haupt.
Rutkowski has also been incredibly durable during his career. He has played 190 consecutive games, and is approaching Winterhawks' all-time ironman streak of 221 games, set by Andrew Ference from Feb. 18, 1995 - Oct. 11, 1998. The only game Rutkowski has missed since the start of the 2009-10 season was to attend the CHL Top Prospects Game in January 2010. Since arriving as a 16-year-old in the 2008-09 season, Rutkowski has played 357 of a possible 366 combined regular season and playoff games.
In Saturday's win over the Medicine Hat Tigers, Brendan Leipsic had two assists to extend his point streak to 10 games, including eight multi-point games in a row. He has nine goals and 14 assists for 23 points during his point streak.
Hawks Happenings Off The Ice:
Fans can meet Winterhawks players next Monday at the Convention Center Burgerville, located near the Rose Quarter at 1135 NE Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. Players will be in attendance from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m., and 10% of all sales during the player appearance are donated to the team's Player Education Fund.
At Friday's game fans are encouraged to bring new or gently-used blankets and new men's socks to donate to Union Gospel Mission. The Winterhawks Booster Club will be collecting the items as fans enter the arena.
