Winnipeg Blue Bombers News Release
WINNIPEG, MB - The Winnipeg Football Club, in partnership with PMA and Appleton Jamaica Rum, will be auctioning off the infamous Appleton Rum Hut on Thursday, November 29th as part of the opening festivities of the Stadium Asset Sale.
The Appleton Rum Hut, which has its own unique place in Canad Inns Stadium history and is etched deep in the hearts of many Blue Bomber fans, will be auctioned off during a live in-person auction outside the Bomber Store on Thursday, November 29th starting at 6pm. All proceeds from the auction of the Appleton Rum Hut will go towards the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
In 1999, it was a humble ticket hut for the Pan Am Games in Winnipeg.
In 2001, it moved to the Stadium where it became a gameday icon and meeting place for more than a decade. "See you at the Rum Hut" has been a common catchphrase amongst Bomber fans for years and it quickly became the #1 liquor outlet in the CFL.
"We at PMA Canada and Appleton Jamaica Rum are extremely pleased that the proceeds from this piece of Winnipeg Football history will benefit the Heart & Stroke Foundation and we look forward to the start of new traditions at Investors Group Field!" said Miles Jones, Regional Manager of PMA Manitoba and Saskatchewan
The evening will start with live auctions of Winnipeg/Canad Inns Stadium Section Signing with Section S scheduled to be last.
Celebrity Auctioneers and Blue Bomber Alumni Rod Hill & Chris Walby will be on hand to ensure all bids are raised to the max, meet with fans and sign autographs on seat backs and other sale items.
The Stadium Asset Sale is open exclusively to Season Ticket Holders from the 29th until December 1st with the general public gaining access on December 2nd. The Bomber Store will be open until 9pm on November 29th and November 30th.
"The Appleton Rum Hut has been a staple inside the stadium for many years and has become the meeting place for many fans at our game," said Blue Bomber President and CEO Garth Buchko. "We're very happy that a piece of our stadium will help generate funds for charity, especially one that affects many people today."
All bidders can start to register outside the Bomber Store starting at 4pm on the 29th and will need a credit card or certified cheque to register and receive an auction bid sign.
The Appleton Rum Hut will be delivered to the winning bidder by Kloos Hauling to any Winnipeg address on Friday, November 30th.
All questions regarding the process can be sent to stadium@bluebombers.com
This auction will be held outside so bidders must come prepared for the weather and conditions that may arise.
