
St. Paul Saints Owner Mike Veeck on Pelicans Radio Show

The Pensacola Pelicans announced today Mike Veeck will be the featured guest this Saturday on the Pelicans weekly radio coaches show. Veeck runs six minor league baseball teams and is known as a maverick marketing whiz in baseball. The show will be broadcast live from New York Nick's located at 9-11 Palafox Place in downtown Pensacola on AM 1620 from Noon until 1:00 p.m.
Veeck is currently part owner and President of the St. Paul Saints, whom the Pelicans play in a three game series June 27 through the 29th. He comes from a baseball family, as his father Bill Veeck, was a Hall of Fame owner with the St. Louis Browns, Cleveland Indians, Chicago White Sox and the then minor league Milwaukee Brewers. His grandfather was president of the Chicago Cubs.
The marketing guru began his baseball career with the White Sox in the 1970's as Assistant Business Manager and Director of Marketing. He was part of the famous Disco Demolition promotion with the White Sox in 1979. He helped resurrect the Miami (now Ft. Myers) Miracle minor league baseball team in 1990 and is a past winner of the MacPhail Award given to an individual annually for excellence in promotions with minor league teams.
Veeck has worked with four major league clubs: the Chicago White Sox, Florida Marlins, Tampa Bay Devil Rays and the Detroit Tigers. He wrote the book, "Fun is Good" 'How to Create Joy & Passion in Your Workplace & Career.'
In addition to his baseball duties, Veeck has spoken to numerous groups and companies throughout the country such as 3M, the NBA, General Mills, NASCAR and numerous colleges and universities.
The Pelicans are also proud to announce WEAR TV 3 Sports Director Dan Shugart will be the guest play-by-play announcer on Saturday, June 24. Shugart will be joining Pelicans radio broadcasters Jay Burnham and Erik Lewitke LIVE on AM1620.
Shugart was recently inducted into the Pensacola Sports Association Hall of Fame this past April and has been with WEAR TV 3 for 25 years. The UCLA graduate also freelances for WSRE TV's broadcast of PJC basketball. The Pelicans continue their seven game home stand tonight vs. the Coastal Bend Aviators at Pelican Park at 6:35 p.m. The first 1,500 fans will receive Pelican hats sponsored by WEAR TV 3 and Gulf Winds Federal Credit Union.
The Pelicans will play Coastal Bend on Saturday and Sunday at Pelican Park at 6:05 p.m. A fireworks extravaganza will take place after the game on Saturday night and it is "Kids Club Sunday" sponsored by Nemours Children's Clinic and Covenant Hospice at Sunday's game.
