St. Joseph Blacksnakes News Release
Lincoln, NE-The Blacksnakes (19-20) are backed to the wall with a 6-2 loss in Lincoln (28-12) in Friday's opener. St. Joe is 8 1/2-games back of Lincoln with nine games to play and would be eliminated from first-half contention with a loss tomorrow.
After the âSnakes scored in the first on former-Saltdog Jake Whitesides' run-scoring single, Lincoln tied it in the fourth and went ahead for good with a four-run fifth inning. Of the four hits in the inning, three were for extra bases, including Josh Patton's two-run home run to make it 5-1.
St. Joe tried to rally but stranded seven runners in the last three innings, including the bases loaded while down 5-2 in the eighth before Lincoln tacked on another in home half to the final 6-2 margin.
Evan Thomas (2-5) suffered the loss, but was outstanding outside the tough fifth inning. He limited Lincoln to just seven hits over seven innings and struck out a season-high nine batters.
The series continues Saturday night from Haymarket Park at 7:05pm. Mark Nussbeck (4-1) goes for St. Joe against the Saltdogs' Roger Lincoln (3-3). The broadcast starts with the Heartland Health Pre-Game Show at 6:45pm at www.stjoeblacksnakes.com.
