Pensacola Pelicans News Release

The Pensacola Pelicans announced today the Atlanta Braves have purchased the contract of veteran pitcher Clint Sodowsky. Sodowsky will report to their double-A team, the Mississippi Braves located in Pearl, Mississippi. He is scheduled to make his first start with the Braves on Saturday, June 24 versus the Birmingham Barons.

Sodowsky dominated the American Association hitters this season, pitching his way to the league's sixth best ERA (2.45) with a 5-1 record. He also led the league with 56 strikeouts compared to walking only 18 batters.

He has given up only 44 hits in 55 innings of work which led the team for the most innings logged this season.

His highlight game this season came on June 13 versus the division leading Coastal Bend Aviators. Sodowsky was one out away from a complete game, throwing eight and two-thirds innings. He scattered seven hits, gave up only run and struck-out nine Aviator batters.

"Clint has done exactly what he needed to do to move up and into major league baseball," said Pelicans Manager Kash Beauchamp. "This is the beauty of the American Association. He deserves this second chance to get back to the big leagues."

The tall right-hander has a storied career which already includes five seasons in Major League Baseball. He first broke into the big leagues with the Detroit Tigers in 1995. He also spent time with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Arizona Diamondbacks, and the St. Louis Cardinals.

In the MLB, Sodowsky's best numbers came with Pittsburgh where he appeared in 45 games for the Pirates who finished with 79 wins and just five games behind league leading Houston. Sodowsky posted a record of 2-2 that season and finished with a 3.63 ERA. In 52 innings of work he struck out 51 batters.

While with the Arizona Diamondbacks in their inaugural season, Sodowsky appeared in 45 games, pitching 77.2 innings and earned three wins while striking out 42 big leaguers.
