St. Paul rallies big for win

August 22, 2006 - American Association (AA)
St. Joseph Blacksnakes News Release

ST. PAUL, MN- The Blacksnakes (22-22, 48-44) led for most of the game, but St. Paul (23-22, 52-41) rallied with nine runs in the seventh for a 12-6 victory. The Blacksnakes are now on the verge of elimination, with just one more St. Paul win or St. Joe loss to end the team's playoff hopes.

St. Joe took a 4-0 lead with a run in the first and three unearned runs in the fourth, the last two on a clutch base hit by Denver Kitch. But after that it was all St. Paul.

The 'Snakes still held a 4-3 lead into the seventh inning when the wheels fell off. St. Paul pounded out eight hits, including a pair of three-run home runs for nine runs against four St. Joe hurlers. Derrick White's two-run single broke the tie and Brian Sprout and Billy Cox each had three-run home runs in the inning to put the game away.

Shingo Mitsumori (3-5) pitched much better than his fate through 6.1 innings, allowing three earned runs on seven hits. Cory Harris had a double and a home run and three runs batted in.

St. Joe now heads home to begin a four-game series with the Fort Worth Cats to conclude the regular season. Wednesday night is Family Night and Baseball Bingo with game time at 7:05pm. The gates open at 6pm as Donovan Graves (8-6) starts for the 'Snakes against Fort Worth's Cory Walters (13-4). The broadcast will start at 6:45pm at www.stjoeblacksnakes.com and at 88.9 FM at the ballpark.
