Pensacola starting pitcher Sam Smith hurled a solid game en route to a win over the Explorers. Smith went eight innings allowing only two earned runs on eight hits with nine strikeouts. Pelicans' closer Tony Pierce pitched a scoreless ninth inning to receive his 21st save of the season, which is tops in the league. Pelicans 1B Tim Dorn had a perfect 3-for-3 game with a run scored and an RBI. RF Juan Rocha also chipped in with a 2-for-3 outing with two runs, two RBI, and his 13th home run of the season. For Sioux City, SS JJ Burress and CF Zack Pace each had two-hit performances.

St. Paul 12, St. Joe 6

St. Paul stormed back from a 4-3 deficit with a nine-run seventh inning to beat the Blacksnakes. The victory put the Saints 3.5 games up on St. St. Joe for the North Division Wild Card. C Billy Cox led the way at the plate for the Saints with a 3-for-4 outing with three runs scored, three RBI, and his second home run of the season. SS Brian Sprout also had two hits in four plate appearances along with hitting his 10th home run of the season. Anthony Boughner improves his record to 9-7 with a seven inning performance allowing only an earned run on five hits with a walk and five strikeouts.

Coastal Bend 4, Shreveport 2

Coastal Bend stays alive for a playoff berth with a win over Shreveport. Jose Luis Lopez pitched a solid effort going seven innings giving up two runs on six hits with eight strikeouts. The win for Lopez is his fourth of the season. LF Bryan Fryer and 2B Jack Joffrion combined to go 4-for-7 in the game for the Aviators with a run scored and two RBI. For the Sports, they were led tonight by DH Chad Gambill who went 1-for-3 with two RBI. With the loss, Shreveport remains 4.5 games behind first place Fort Worth.

El Paso 6, Fort Worth 2

CF JP Schmidt and LF Jorge Alvarez go a combined 4-for-7 with four runs scored and an RBI to get the Diablos a victory and prevent Fort Worth from clinching the South Division second half title. Chris Trevino pushed his record over the .500 mark at 3-2 with the win tossing seven innings giving up two earned runs on six hits with two walks and five strikeouts. As for the Cats, which had their five game winning streak snapped, leadoff hitter 3B Terence Green had a 2-for-4 outing with a run scored.

Lincoln 6, Sioux Falls 4 (11 innings)

Lincoln scored three runs in the 11th inning to break a 3-3 tie and win by two runs over Sioux Falls. Kyle Ruwe notched his 10th win of the season by pitching the 10th and 11th innings and giving up only an earned run on a hit with two strikeouts. 2B Josh Patton and 1B Brett Cooley each had 2-for-4 nights for Lincoln with both plating a run and driving home a run. Patton also hit his 11th home run of the year. SS/RF Bryan Warner contributed as well with two hits and three runs scored. DH Abner Arroyo had a 2-for-4 outing for the Canaries with two runs scored, two RBI, and his 13th homer of the season.
