
St. Louis SS Ruben Tejada Joins Springfield for Rehab Assignment

Springfield, MO - The St. Louis Cardinals have announced that Cardinals SS Ruben Tejada will begin a Rehab Assignment with the Springfield Cardinals at Hammons Field starting on Thursday, April 14.
The Cardinals take on the San Antonio Missions for Opening Night on Thursday. Thursday's game will also feature the Great Southern Bank Magnet Schedule Giveaway (3,500), 2016 Opening Night Fireworks Celebration and is a Klement's "Buck a Brat" Night. Tejada, 26, signed with the Cardinals on March 19 after spending the first six seasons of his career with the New York Mets. Through 580 career Major League games since debuting with New York on April 7, 2010, Tejada owns a career .255 batting average with 10 home runs, 99 doubles and 148 RBIs. A sure-handed defender, Tejada has turned 331 career double plays, while committing fewer than 10 errors in all but two of his Major League seasons.
A native of Veraguas, Panama, Tejada signed with the Mets as an International Free Agent at the age of 16 and needed only three Minor League seasons before breaking into the big leagues.
