FRISCO, TEXAS (April 13, 2016) - The Texas Rangers announced Wednesday that Frisco RoughRiders catcher Alex Burg has been promoted to Triple-A Round Rock.

Burg, 28, appeared in three of the first six Riders games on the road to start the season. The Des Moines, Washington native went 2-for-4 with a two-run double in the sixth inning of last Friday's 6-3 victory over Northwest Arkansas. For the season, the right-handed hitter had gone 2-for-13 (.154) with one double, two RBI, and one walk.

Burg was named a California League Mid-Season All-Star last year before being promoted to Frisco to start the second half of the season. He has previous Triple-A experience, as he finished 2015 playing five games with Round Rock. Burg also appeared in 12 Pacific Coast League games in 2013 with the New Orleans Zephyrs (Miami Marlins affiliate).

The Express had an open spot for a catcher after Sunday when former RoughRiders catcher/first baseman Brett Nicholas was called up to the Rangers. Nicholas became the 140th former RoughRiders player to play in the Major Leagues and made his debut Monday with two hits against the Seattle Mariners.

The RoughRiders roster is now at 24 active players, which one under the Texas League limit.

The RoughRiders will open their 2016 home schedule at Dr Pepper Ballpark on Thursday, April 14 against the Northwest Arkansas Naturals. Opening Night will be the first Thirsty Thursday of the season with $1 domestic draft beers, $2 craft and import beers, and $1 Dr Pepper Products from 6:00-8:00 p.m. The first 2,000 fans to enter the ballpark will receive a 2016 RoughRiders schedule magnet and after the game, everyone in attendance will be invited onto the field to watch an incredible post-game fireworks show.

Tickets are available now online at RidersBaseball.com , via email at info@ridersbaseball.com (mailto:info@ridersbaseball.com) , over the phone at (972) 731-9200, or in-person at the RoughRiders box office .
