St. Louis City SC News Release
ST. LOUIS - St Louis CITY2 defender Kyle Hiebert signed a two-year MLS contract beginning in 2023 with an option for 2025, the club announced today. Hiebert, a two-time MAC Hermann Trophy award finalist with Missouri State University, will join CITY2 captain Josh Yaro to the first-team roster in 2023.
"We are very excited and proud to keep Kyle in the STL family after the hard work he has put in this season," said Sporting Director Lutz Pfannenstiel. "Kyle's leadership and quality on the field are attributes of a role model that we want to continue adding to this club. We had no doubts that Kyle could take the next step and are excited for how he finishes out the season and prepares for 2023."
Hiebert, 24, has played 1,526 out of the possible 1,530 minutes this season which is the most on CITY2 and seventh most in MLS Next Pro through 17 matches played. The Manitoba, Canada native has helped anchor the CITY2 backline to seven clean sheets, which ranks tied for second in the league.
"It is great to see Kyle earn an MLS contract," said Head Coach Bradley Carnell. "He has adapted well to our team's principles and has shown strong qualities on the backline. We can't wait to see his continual growth with us."
Hiebert recorded his first professional goal, which was the game winner, against Salt Lake City on June 25 at Ralph Korte Stadium. He ranks tied for 20th among all MLS Next Pro defenders in duels with 114 and tied for 23rd in interceptions among all MLS Next Pro defenders with 23.
