St. Louis City SC: MLS Expansion Club Unveils Name, Crest and Colors

August 13, 2020 - Major League Soccer (MLS) - St. Louis City SC News Release

The St. Louis MLS expansion team revealed its official name, crest and colors on Thursday during a live-streamed event featuring the team's supporters and ownership group.

Name & Colors

The team will be known as St. Louis City SC. Selected from over 6,000 fan submissions, the name is rooted in the city's rich soccer tradition as America's First Soccer Capital. The name celebrates the area's diverse, iconic neighborhoods and proud heritage while capturing the region's recent growth and cultural renaissance.

Four primary colors will identify the team: "City Red", "River Blue", "Energy Yellow", "Arch Steel Gray".

Crest

A diverse group of over 20 local designers created the crest based upon a common theme discovered through focus groups and discussions with various community members - a deep-rooted sense of unity and pride across the region in the St. Louis City flag. Using the flag as an inspiration, the team crest is an abstract depiction of the club's passion and purpose, displayed through iconic elements found across the St. Louis region.

WORDMARK: Prominently leads with CITY as team name.

THE SOCCER CLUB/SOCCER CAPITAL: SC has double meaning, standing for both Soccer Club and Soccer Capital. It is our name, it is our history.

TOP OF SHIELD: Follows the shape of the Gateway Arch.

TWO RIVERS: Horizontal lines represent the two rivers that define our region: The Mississippi and The Missouri.

GATEWAY ARCH: The abstract representation of the iconic landmark is used to create movement and a connection to the rivers from the St. Louis City flag.

About St. Louis City SC

St. Louis City SC will begin play in MLS in 2023, joining Sacramento as the 29th and 30th teams in the league. The team will feature the only majority female-led ownership group in Major League Soccer, led by Carolyn Kindle Betz.

"St. Louis City SC is a reflection of the STLMade movement that is at the heart of everything we do, and truly represents our region's diverse and optimistic spirit," said Kindle Betz. "Our desire from day one has been to be bigger than soccer and to become part of the fabric of St. Louis and a symbol of our future. This is a significant step forward for our club - and our region."
