Squirrels Shut out by SeaWolves Friday Night

ERIE, Pa. - The Richmond Flying Squirrels were shut out, 8-0, by the Erie SeaWolves on Friday night for their sixth consecutive loss.

The Flying Squirrels (12-19) have now dropped 10-of-11, including nine-of-10 on the current road trip and all four games against the SeaWolves (17-11).

The SeaWolves took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning. Gage Workman singled home the first run and Hao-Yu Lee added two runs with a single.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Lee brought in two runs with a double to extend the Erie lead to 5-0.

John Michael Bertrand (Loss, 2-1) had his scoreless streak snapped at 17.1 consecutive innings. He allowed season highs in runs (5) and hits (8) over his 4.2 innings.

Erie starter Troy Melton (Win, 1-2) picked up the first win of his Double-A career with five scoreless innings, allowing three hits with five strikeouts.

The SeaWolves added three runs in the bottom of the eighth to stretch their lead to 8-0. Trei Cruz hit a solo homer, Stephen Scott brought in a run with a single and Carlos Medoza singled in another run to cap the scoring for Erie.

The series continues on Saturday afternoon. Right-hander Carson Ragsdale (0-0, 3.51) will be on the mound for Richmond countered by Erie right-hander Austin Bergner (0-1, 7.20). First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 p.m. at UPMC Park.
