Chesapeake Baysox News Release
BOWIE, M.D - The Bowie Baysox, the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, were held scoreless by the Akron RubberDucks on Friday evening at Prince George's Stadium by a final score of 4-0.
Bowie (16-14) went 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position and struck out 11 times as Akron (20-11) evened up the series two games apiece.
Starting right-hander Brandon Young (L, 0-1) threw 3.1 innings and struck out three but was charged with the loss after giving up a run on three hits in the fourth. He left the game with a runner on second and Joe Naranjo singled in a run against right-hander Nick Richmond to give Akron an early 1-0 lead.
Right-hander Kyle Brnovich entered the game in the fifth and threw two scoreless innings before giving up a three-run home run in the seventh to Petey Halpin to extend the RubberDucks lead to 4-0.
Brnovich struck out seven batters, one shy of matching his season-high, over four innings of relief. The 26-year-old has now struck out seven or more batters in three of his last four outings.
The Baysox bats mustered just five hits on the night with two of them off the bat of TT Bowens. The 25-year-old doubled twice and his .337 batting average is good for second in the Eastern League.
Akron starting left-hander Doug Nikhazy punched out six batters over three innings of work while righties Bradley Hanner, Jack Leftwich (W, 1-2) and Trey Benton combined for six innings of relief to complete the RubberDucks shutout victory.
The Baysox continue their six-game series against the RubberDucks Saturday night at 6:35 pm. RHP Seth Johnson (0-3, 4.60 ERA) will go for Bowie against RHP Tommy Mace (3-1, 2.20 ERA) for Akron.
