Arkansas Travelers News Release

SPRINGFIELD, MO - The Springfield Cardinals made it three straight wins to start the series, collecting yet another come-from-behind victory against the Arkansas Travelers with Saturday night's 6-4 triumph.

RHP Kurt Heyer (W, 5-0) collected the win and remained unbeaten for Springfield in 2015 by hurling 2.1 innings of hitless relief after RHP Andrew Morales allowed four runs (all earned) on eight hits in the start.

RHP Ronnie Shaban (SV, 6) earned his sixth save of the season with a 1-2-3 ninth inning to close out the ballgame.

RHP Michael Brady did not factor into the decision after surrendering three runs (all earned) on four hits with one walk and eight strikeouts in his Saturday night start. After allowing a three-run home run to 2B Bruce Caldwell (HR, 8) three batters into the bottom of the first, Brady only allowed two hits over the remainder of his start.

RHP Nate Hyatt (L, 1-2) was dealt the loss after failing to record an out in the bottom of the seventh. Hyatt allowed two runs (both earned) on one hit while walking and hitting one batter each.

LHP Chris O'Grady (BS, 1) went the final two innings and surrendered a lone run on one hit with one walk.

Arkansas opened up the scoring in the top of the first thanks to a bases-clearing double from LF Blake Gailen, only to have Springfield counter with a Bruce Caldwell three-run blast in the bottom part of the frame to tie it up.

2B Sherman Johnson contributed a sacrifice fly to give Arkansas the lead at 4-3 in the top of the third. The Travelers held that lead until the seventh when Springfield struck for two runs to move in front for good.

The Cardinals capped off the scoring with a pinch-hit homer from Jonathan Rodriguez (HR, 10) in the eighth inning to make it a 6-4 Springfield edge.

With the win, the Cards have a series victory in their back pocket and have now made it a tie for first place atop the Texas League North Division second half standings.

In Sunday's 6:10 p.m. series finale, Arkansas will send out RHP Kyle McGowin (8-7, 4.87) who has won each of his last four starts. The Travelers will be countered by a highly-touted righty of Springfield's own in RHP Alex Reyes (0-1, 3.09), Baseball America's tenth-rated overall prospect.
