Spokane Toppled by Giants in Overtime

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs dropped Game 4 of the 2019 WHL Western Conference Championship versus Vancouver on Wednesday night in overtime by a score of 4-3. The loss puts the Giants ahead in the best-of-seven series, 3-1.

The Chiefs were the first team on the board when rookie Adam Beckman emerged from a scrum behind the Giants' net with the puck and carried it netfront, firing it past Vancouver goaltender David Tendeck to put Spokane on top, 1-0.

Beckman connected for his second goal of the night on a similar play in the second period, cutting in front of the net before flipping his second of the night past Tendeck to extend the Chiefs' lead to 2-0 at 10:06.

The third period opened with three unanswered goals by the Giants, including one on the power play, to go ahead 3-2. Jadon Joseph scored on a delayed penalty before Bowen Byram bounced one in off a Chiefs defender on the power play to tie it up. Brayden Watts gave Vancouver their first lead with a snap from the left wing to beat Spokane goalie Bailey Brkin.

Veteran forward Riley Woods tied things up for Spokane with 3:35 left in regulation, slipping the puck in from behind the net to force overtime for the second-straight night.

Vancouver's Dawson Holt, the reigning WHL Player of the Week, came through for the Giants at 7:07 of the overtime period to give Vancouver the win and extend their series lead to 3-1.

Brkin finished the night 26-for-30 in goal while Vancouver's Tendeck was 28-for-31. The Chiefs went 0-for-1 on the power play and 1-for-2 on the penalty kill.

The 2019 WHL Western Conference Championship continues with Game 5 on Friday, April 26 back in Langley, B.C. A Chiefs victory on Friday would secure a Game 6 back in Spokane on Monday, April 29.
